The Bethesda Café is responsible for providing a hospitable environment for homeless people in Center City who need a safe and warm place to stay overnight. The ideal greeter is hospitable, non-judgmental, compassionate, and energetic and has experience dealing with persons with severe mental illness.
Reports to: Program Coordinator.
This is a full time varied work day seasonal position. 9pm-7am
General Responsibilities
Oversee the operations and administrative responsibilities of the Café, maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable drop-in center for homeless individuals seeking temporary shelter and light nourishment.
Enforce program policies and procedures related to guests and staff.
Provide on-site supervision and training for staff and volunteers.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers.
Address, resolve, and document all emergencies – guest- or facility-related.
Engage, interact, and work toward fostering a trusting relationship with guests of the Café.
Provide referrals to guests of community resources and housing options.
Oversee the housekeeping duties as needed and report any maintenance problems to the Program Coordinator.
Maintain an appropriate stock of food and beverages.
Notify the Café Program Coordinator of any problems regarding staff, guests, or volunteers.
Make nightly entry in the log including census, new guests, and unordinary behaviors of guests.
Assist in the preparation, enjoyment, and clean-up of light nourishment.
Lead nightly opening meetings and morning wrap-up meetings.
