Financial Management Consultant, Women’s Community Revitalization Project

The Women’s Community Revitalization Project (WCRP), a community based non-profit organization founded in 1987, is committed to social and economic justice for low-income women and their families.  WCRP develops housing and neighborhood facilities; provides supportive services; advocates for policy change, and honors leadership, dignity, and equity in communities.

We seek an independent Financial Management Consultant with management reporting expertise to formalize WCRP’s internal budgeting and forecasting processes and provide Management with long-range financial and operating forecasts and key information required to inform business decisions.

On-Going Expectations and Key Deliverables for the Assignment

·        Build & manage regular rolling forecasting & reforecasting processes, fostering organization-wide integration of information and plans wherever possible.  Utilize historical data provided from cash-flow reports and other sources as a baseline. Then, build and update forecasts that spotlight WCRP’s current and likely future financial position vis-à-vis budget and previous forecasts in areas of assets, liabilities, capital and earnings based on past, present and future operations.

o       By October 1, 2012, work with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to define the content, formatting, frequency and reach (e.g., 12 months) of the forecasts, as well as data sources.

o       Run first forecasts by November 1, 2012 and fine-tune as necessary to make them easy to update.

·        By December 1,  2012, work with Executive Director and Deputy Director to design and refine a series of regularly-run project reports to provide the Executive Director with key internal inputs for making informed long-term decisions about the prioritization or reprioritization of proposed & existing projects.  For each project, spotlight factors that have short- and long-term financial impact on WCRP.

o       By November 1, 2012, fully map the processes by which data is collected/ updated and by which reports are generated.

o       By December 1, 2012, begin to generate the reports on the defined internal frequency.  Fine-tune processes and reports as necessary.

o       Ensure that data is accurate, and that it correctly informs strategic planning, budgeting and reforecasting.

·        By January 1, 2012, create and implement an “early warning/problem prevention’ system” to ensure WCRP can respond to potential issues before they become fiscal emergencies. Make sure key data can be available when it’s needed for decision-making.

o       Work with Executive Director and Deputy Director to document key internal metrics that need to be watched, and help Executive Director and Deputy Director to define who should monitor those indicators.

o       Fine-tune processes and reports as necessary.

·        Each year, participate in WCRP’s annual budgeting process, alongside the Fiscal Coordinator.

·        Willingness to perform related work as requested within scope of work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

·        Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field plus five years’ experience in Finance involving financial analysis, budget coordination and forecasting.

·        Current CMA certification is preferred

·        Nonprofit experience is highly desirable, particularly familiarity with community development organizations

·         Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
