Pre-Conference Workshop: Getting Community-Engaged Scholarship Published
Posted by on August 06, 2012
if you are planning to attend the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement this September in Baltimore, please consider registering for the preconference workshop Barbara Holland (editor of Metropolitan Universities Journal) and I (editor of the Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning) will be facilitating — “Getting Community-Engaged Scholarship Published.”
The target audience for this preconference workshop are new and seasoned faculty seeking to build their capacity to critique and write about their community-engaged scholarship with a goal of getting published as well as those who are responsible for encouraging and enabling such faculty work on their respective campuses.
As a result of attending this workshop, participants will:
1. better understand the various manifestations of community-engaged scholarship;
2. understand how journal article submissions are evaluated and reviewed;
3. build capacity to evaluate a community-engaged scholarly product by being part of a review panel simulation;
4. learn journal editors’ recommendations for getting published;
5. become knowledgeable about the array of journals and book publishers valuing community-engaged scholarship;
6. strengthen their capacity to develop scholarly materials from community engagement work;
7. understand the differences between research articles, essays, cases studies, and stories.
