New Action Kit to Help Cities Create Youth Master Plans
The YEF Institute has published a new action kit for municipal leaders on Creating a Youth Master Plan. As the tenth action kit in the Institute’s signature series, this publication offers practical advice to cities using the familiar concept of a master plan to better coordinate services and opportunities for young people. Cities throughout the nation have engaged school districts, youth, and other stakeholders in youth master planning processes to develop a shared vision and framework for youth development. These plans help reduce duplication, identify unmet needs, eliminate barriers to services, generate cost savings, and improve communication and civic engagement. Based on the experiences of cities as diverse as Charleston, S.C., Claremont, Calif., and Minneapolis, Minn., the action kit will serve as a useful resource for municipal officials interested in a strategic and comprehensive approach to enhancing the well-being of children and youth.
