Communication Specialist, Childspace CDI
Posted by on July 16, 2012
About the Position:
The Communication Specialist will improve communication effectiveness and increase the number of childcare programs actively involved with Childspace CDI. Childspace CDI is dedicated to improving the quality of jobs for traditionally low-paid child care workers and the quality of care received by the children and families they serve. Childspace CDI supports child care professionals in the Philadelphia area in gaining the skills they need to speak up for themselves and their field, and to run their businesses in a way that supports quality care. Many child care businesses and the women who run them lack the resources they need to provide quality care. To attract and retain well trained staff they need to be able to provide decent working conditions including paid days off and regular work schedules. Childspace CDI helps these entrepreneurs learn how to find resources for their businesses and invest it in the staff and the quality of the care. The organization also brings isolated providers together to advocate for policies that support early education. Childspace CDI has recently upgraded its communications infrastructure through the redesign of its website and database. Taken together these activities will increase the number of child care programs involved with Childspace CDI and the organization’s effectiveness in serving them. The enhanced communication capacity will also raise the positive profile of the organization and help garner additional resources, leading to financial stability.
Duties:
The Communication Specialist will help design and implement all communications for the organization including: electronic and print newsletter; fliers; web site and Facebook updates; and marketing materials. The Specialist will assist with outreach for meetings and events and will help publicize results. The Communication Specialist will write print and on-line articles, personal stories, fliers, press releases, letters and op-ed pieces; and help produce and upload video stories. Because Childspace CDI is a small organization, the Communication Specialist will have substantive assignments and real responsibility. The Specialist will work closely with the Program Assistant who has training and experience with all e-communications, database management and layout; and the Executive Director who has 30 years of experience in non-profit promotions and writing.
