Media & Communications Organizer
The Philadelphia Student Union (PSU) is a community based youth organizing and leadership development organization led by high school aged youth with adult support. PSU is national leader in the youth organizing movement with school based, citywide, statewide, and national organizing campaigns and strategies, a well-developed media and communications infrastructure, and supportive programs for members.
Responsibilities of the Media & Communications Organizer:
– Training & coordinating PSU’s youth-produced radio show
– Coordinating production of PSU’s student-written newsletter
– Training & coordinating a group of student spokespeople
– Leading media trainings & workshops for student members
– Managing PSU’s external media strategy
– Coordinating PSU’s website content
– Creating organizational print materials (brochures, flyers, posters, etc)
– Developing & maintaining organizational relationships with press
– Leadership development of student members
Required Experience:
A minimum of 3 years experience with the following:
– Production of community news and/or grassroots media
– Audio & radio production; specifically radio journalism
– Experience with coordinating print media; writing, editing, etc.
– Experience leading trainings and/or facilitating
– Developing media and communications strategy
– Acting as press liaison for an organization
– Working with young people [young people of color and poor young people] in an
organizing or youth development capacity
Preferred Experience:
– Proficiency with Avid ProTools software
– Proficiency with Adobe InDesign or other desktop publishing software
– Experience creating curriculum
– Knowledge of Philadelphia public education system
– Experience organizing campaigns at a neighborhood, city or state level

– Excellent written and verbal communication skills
– Ability to manage multiple types of tasks effectively
– Excellent follow-through
– Flexible & adaptable
– Strong dedication and demonstrable work ethic
Start Date: September 1, 2012
