Bread and Roses announces honorees for Tribute to Change
Bread and Roses Community Fund has announced this year’s Tribute to Change honorees.
The Tribute to Change is the region’s annual celebration of social change heroes. This year’s event will be held on June 28th from 5:30-8pm at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown hotel at 17th and Race Streets.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the workers’ strike in Lawrence, Massachusetts for which the organization is named, Bread & Roses will honor local labor and worker’s rights heroes at this year’s Tribute to Change.
Honorees include Kathy Black, who will receive the Paul Robeson Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to social change recently, or throughout his or her lifetime; Janet Ryder, recipient of the Trailblazer Award, which is given to an outstanding leader in community organizing who has helped to pave the way for others; Germán Parodi, the Emerging Leader Award, which is given to an individual who is beginning to make their mark as a community organizer; and Kairys, Rudovsky, Messing & Feinberg LLP, the Robin Hood was Right Award, for an individual or organization making an outstanding contribution to social change philanthropy in the Greater Philadelphia area.
There are two winners of the Community Empowerment Award, which is given to a community organization, union or campaign that has accomplished a great deal for change, not charity. They are the Philadelphia Unemployment Project and workers at the Southwest Philadelphia, Marcus Hook and Trainer oil refineries.
