HEALTH EDUCATOR (TEMPORARY POSITION)
Reports to the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Project Director

The Part-Time Health Educator position is a temporary position which is funded for a specific time period:
February 1, 2012 – June 29, 2012. (The Part-Time Health Educator will be trained by our internal trainers before becoming certified in both ETR curricula. Satisfactory completion of both trainings must occur before classroom facilitation occurs).  25 hours per week, no benefits.

Upon satisfactory completion of both trainings, the Part-Time Health Educator will deliver an effective Teen Pregnancy Prevention HIV and STD Awareness instruction using “Reducing the Risk” (RTR) and Becoming A Responsible Teen” (B.A.R.T) which are comprehensive sexual health educational curricula to youth participants in charter and public schools, community and faith-based programs. Additionally, the Part-Time Health Educator will provide presentations to parents, educators and other community stakeholders as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
o    Effectively deliver RTR and B.A.R.T. curricula for program participants, reinforcing age-appropriate language and medically accurate instructional strategies.
o    Assist the Community Outreach Coordinator in identifying and securing middle and high schools and community based sites to host TPP educational programming for project youth.
o    Enter enrollment forms and classroom attendance on a daily/weekly basis.
o    Assist in coordinating special events, including the Youth Leadership Academy and Teen Pregnancy Prevention Rally for youth and community stakeholders.
o    Assist team in coordinating educational support meetings for parents of project youth, which include encouraging parental involvement, facilitating relevant topics of interest (STIs, determinants of teen pregnancy, etc.), securing guest speakers, and providing resources and referrals as needed.
o    Assist Project Director in coordinating special events and positive youth activities, which include the following: skits and role plays, role model presentations, and end-of-program recognition events.
o    Attend community events as recommended by the Project Director
o    Conduct home visits on an as needed basis.
o    Build and maintain professional working relationships with other team members, school personnel and community-based service providers.
o    Submit monthly statistics to Lead Educator in a timely manner as required.
o    Attend scheduled meetings deemed necessary by the Project Director.
o    Follow all requirements and guidelines of TPP program funder under guidance of supervisors.
o    Occasional evening and weekend hours
o    All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Health, Sociology, Social Work, Human Services, Education or youth work preferred. At least one year of experience providing teen pregnancy prevention programs, health education, professional counseling, teaching or educational programming. Ability to maintain professional working relationships with other team members, school personnel, community providers and corporate partners. Knowledge of teen pregnancy determinants, youth development principles, sexual health and effective teaching strategies required. Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic and social groups. Hold a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance. Must be flexible, possess classroom management skills, comfortable leading ice-breakers and love youth.

Other Skills and Abilities: Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  Qualifications may be demonstrated through exam. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines. Bilingual skills a plus. Minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
