Welcoming Center publishes toolkit to help immigrant employment
Have you ever gotten into a taxicab only to discover that the cab driver used to be a doctor or engineer in his home country?
That story is unfortunately all too common. Talented, highly-educated immigrants arrive in the US full of energy and excitement — only to be disappointed when they are unable to break into the US professional job market. Nationwide, the Migration Policy Institute estimates there are 2.7 million such individuals.
That’s why the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians has published a new toolkit called Talent is Ready: Promising Practices for Helping Immigrant Professionals Establish their American Careers.
The toolkit is designed for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teachers, librarians, community leaders and nonprofit advocates.
