The United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania (UWSEPA) has an excellent Program Manager of Capacity Building career opportunity within our Community Impact area.
The ideal individual selected for this position will be responsible for assisting UWSEPA funded agencies with developing knowledge to increase their capacity to serve diverse clients with growing needs across our region Ideally, this key position will be responsible for leading the development and execution of United Way’s capacity building strategies to promote a vibrant and healthy human services sector.
Under the direction of the Director of Capacity Building, the Program Manager position will provide operational leadership within the unit, including project management, research and program development. This position will also be instrumental in advancing organizational goals by assisting with the development of strategies to implement capacity building priorities, managing key relationships, ensuring successful delivery of quantifiable results, and promoting best practices and integration of department activities.
Essential Functions
• Manages programs and projects under the “Capacity Building” priority area specifically focused on sustaining a vibrant and healthy nonprofit sector in our region through leadership development, strategic partnership and outcomes measurement.
• Leads the collection of field knowledge and researches best practices related to nonprofit capacity building, and other areas as needed.
• Assist with the development of new strategies, programs, and products to implement capacity building initiatives.
• Participates in strategic partnerships work groups, roundtables, and other committees related to capacity building.
• Coordinates agency committees (Nonprofit Excellence Council and the Professional Advisory Committee) on behalf of the Director, Capacity Building.
• Provides guidance and staff support to the formation of initiatives projects and directed investments related to capacity building.
• Writes and distributes Requests for Proposals; analyzes funding requests and develops funding recommendations.
• Develops and manages contractual agreements with consultants, and/or technical assistance providers.
• Fields questions from the community about UWSEPA’s capacity building initiatives.
• Foster connections between complementary work within the department, internally with the organization as a whole, and with external partners.
• Manage relationships with multiple external partners, including funders, and other initiative partners.
• Forecast, track and manage project deliverables and budgets.
• Coordinates and participates in other resource development activities, as needed.
• Communicate with key internal and external stakeholders as needed.
• Represents United Way in external committees and forums as assigned.
• Other duties, as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required; graduate degree in the social services sector preferred but not required.
• 3 years of demonstrated experience in the nonprofit sector, preferably working in a role of capacity building, including leadership development, training, and/or outcomes measurement.
• 1 – 2 years of project management required; strong project management and organizational skills including the ability to break a complex project down into smaller tasks and to set, and stick to, internal deadlines.
• Experience with community organizations, the business community, and/or policy advocacy groups are desired.
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral), including presentation skills
• Excellent organizational abilities
• Ability to use technology to track information and to support analytical and presentation activities.
• Ability to use statistics and other data to identify needs, evaluate efforts and communicate results

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time while operating a computer keyboard and other office equipment, viewing data, analyzing data or editing work; the employee is frequently required to have usage of hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, see and hear. The employee occasionally is required to stand, walk, and lift objects and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee will often need to function in a high-pressure environment and meet stringent deadlines for completing tasks; have the ability to communicate clearly with all levels of staff, stakeholders, agencies and constituents.
