Among several new features you’ll find in NYLC’s Generator School Network (http://gsn.nylc.org), the “Learn” section is now divided into three categories of professional development topics — developing young leaders, supporting educators, and convening the field — with an option to view all topics. Not a member of the GSN? Membership is free! Join by visiting the website today: http://gsn.nylc.org
View recorded webinars. The Learn section is also where you will find recorded versions of the live webinars we do as part of NYLC’s professional development offerings. Improve your practice by viewing these video recordings on topics ranging from “Fundraising for Service-Learning” to “Engaging Youth in Addressing the Achievement Gap” at your convenience. To explore the new Learn page, log in to the GSN.
GSN member of the month (http://gsn.nylc.org/groups/306). Lauren McCabe, a service-learning practitioner from Pasadena, CA, challenges her students to re-think their consumption and waste-production habits through an innovative hands-on project. Her students save the trash they produce in a bag which they must carry around with them for a week. This transformative activity gets her students thinking about the complicated issue of trash disposal in our world and the impacts on the planet’s ecology.
