The Achieving Independence Center (AIC) is a “one-stop center” designed to help young people, ages 16-21, from the dependent (foster care) system achieve their future goals of self-sufficiency.

The Housing Advocate is responsible for:

Conducting individual housing counseling

Assisting youth in developing and implementing individual housing plans that lead to independent living and permanent housing options.

Teaching workshops related to housing topics as needed

Assisting youth in finding and registering for emergency housing placements

Referring youth to appropriate housing support programs, including transitional housing programs

Developing relationships with private market landlords and rental agencies, housing-related service providers and public/government-based housing entities

Advocating for youth with regard to housing-related issues

The ideal candidate will possess:

A commitment to positive youth development and a strengths-based approach.

Training in (or willingness to learn) adventure-based counseling techniques.

Master’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or other related field.

Minimum of two or more years working with adolescents, work with homeless youth and/or youth with a dependent care history preferred.

Child Abuse, Criminal Background and FBI clearances.

Available early evenings and weekends.

Enjoys working with teens.
