Crossing Guard Train-the-Trainer Offered in Pennsylvania

Properly trained crossing guards help to enhance student safety by providing an element of structure and authority to the roadways near schools. Crossing guards can positively influence the behavior of children near intersections and help children cross roadways more safely. At this hands-on training, participants
learn proper crossing guard techniques and practices so that they can return to their communities and set up similar training geared for local crossing guards.

This training, which targets those who train crossing guards, represents the first time that standardized crossing guard instruction has been developed and taught across Pennsylvania. There is no charge to attend this training.

Course Dates and Locations:
February 23 – East Goshen Township Building, West Chester, Chester County
March 14 – Upper Macungie Township Building, Breinigsville, Lehigh County
March 19 – Mill Creek Township Building, Erie, Erie County
March 20 – Moon Township Building, Moon Township, Allegheny County
April 2 – PSATS Educational Center, Enola, Cumberland County
April 13 – Patton Township Building, State College, Centre County

Course Schedule: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (lunch on your own).
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.

Curriculum: Specifically, the course will cover the following classroom and practical components:

State and federal law and regulations
Roadway hazards
Characteristics of children – behavior, physical capabilities
Crossing guard qualifications, roles, and responsibilities
Crossing guard equipment and attire
Crossing guard positioning
Crossing guard procedures
Review and discussion

Following the classroom portion of the course, participants will have an opportunity to apply what they
learned with practice scenarios.
