The Center for Literacy is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing a range of literacy services, including reading, writing, math, life and work skills, to help a diverse population of learners meet their needs and achieve their personal and employment-related goals. Responsibilities:
• Instruct up to 25 adult learners in the areas of reading, writing and math
• Work with learners on activities related to their individual and collective goals
• Plan lessons in advance using appropriate instructional materials and techniques for developing reading, writing, math and critical thinking skills
• Develop curriculum that includes themes relevant to students’ lives, interests and work-related goals
• Promote student engagement and collaboration in learning
• Administer TABE and informal assessments
• Transition learners to Intermediate or GED level classes
• Maintain individual portfolios on all learners
• Perform all related administrative duties and reporting such as completing timesheets and submitting monthly reports to the program manager
• Participate in monthly team and general staff meetings
• Other duties as assigned
Depending on percentage of time employed:
• Participate in ongoing professional development activities
• Participate on one committee
• Participate in agency events
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Strong written, communication, and organizational skills required
• Excellent interpersonal skills required
• Experience teaching reading, math, job training required
• Strong computer skills including internet research and Microsoft Office
Reports to: Program Manager for State Programs
Job Classification: Part-time or full-time Regular, Exempt
Salary: $12.00 – 14.36 per hour

1. Monday/Wednesday 9am-12pm Intermediate group
2. Tuesday/Thursday 9am-12pm Adult Basic Education group
3. Monday/Wednesday 1pm-4pm Intermediate group
4. Monday/Wednesday 5:30pm-8:30pm Intermediate group
Available: Immediately through June 30, 2011
