Description of Position: To develop strong relationships between The Salvation Army and corporations / businesses and their leadership in the Greater Philadelphia region, as part of the development team, resulting in maximum financial resource development from the corporate community for Salvation Army programs, projects, campaigns and events. Develop and implement a strategic, proactive, and systematic corporate relationship-building program for The Salvation Army that structures, encourages, and promotes strengthened corporate involvement and giving. Work to successfully fulfill activity (eg. visits) and gifts production goals for the year. Face to face solicitation, phone solicitation, proposal-writing, and networking with corporate executives are primary duties of this position. Responsible for securing significant (including five- and six-figure) corporate financial sponsorships. Facilitate SA leader meetings with CEO’s that brief them on Army mission, programs, and funding opportunities, and foster a “CEO to CEO” relationship that benefits the Army through funding and other resources. Develop regional cause-related marketing and other fund raising initiatives. Research potential and existing corporate and business funders and submit appropriate proposals. Provide excellent grant stewardship through consistent, professional communication with funders, including updates, reports, and follow up visits / tours as appropriate.
Requirements: Must be committed to and embrace the mission of The Salvation Army, with a clear passion for and understanding of the role of corporate fund raising and events in furthering that mission. Minimum BA degree required, preferably in relevant field such as Business Administration or Sales or Marketing, along with minimum of five years of relevant professional experience. Direct fund raising experience for a not-for-profit organization, with a successful track record in corporate fund raising, is strongly preferred. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), able to relate effectively and professionally to executives and leaders in the community as well as with key Salvation Army stakeholders (officers, staff, volunteers), demonstrating excellent follow through and reflecting the Army and its brand / values well in all communications. Must be a positive and effective team player. Should be a strong networker and relationship-builder. Should be comfortable with and capable of asking for money respectfully and in a way that effectively matches corporate interests with Army needs. Must be well-organized and computer proficient (facility with Microsoft Office, Powerpoint, Lotus Notes, and Raiser’s Edge preferred). Must have valid Driver’s License and be willing to travel regionally as needed, flexible on scheduling (including attendance at early meetings or evening or weekend events) to accommodate corporate relationships and events and other duties as assigned. Must have a strong grasp of and vision for successful strategies and tactics related to corporate resource development.
