The Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania (MHASP) is a non-profit citizen’s organization that develops, supports and promotes innovative education and advocacy programs. We believe that people and family members impacted by mental health conditions are empowered individuals who are prepared to direct their recovery journeys as members of informed and inclusive communities. Our mission is to promote innovative services and ideas that create opportunities for resiliency and recovery from mental health conditions through advocacy, direct services, training, education, information, and referral. MHASP has a full-time Youth Systems Advocate position in our Advocacy program.

Summary:
The Youth Systems Advocate will as a liaison between MHASP and other key leaders and professionals involved in the systems that address behavioral health in the five-county region. He/she will work to integrate the advocacy perspective of MHASP into the political, educational, criminal justice, human service and behavioral health and other systems that impact the lives of children, adolescents, and young adults with emotional and behavioral health conditions.
Essential Duties:
Work closely with the Director of the Advocacy Division and the Chief Advocacy Officer to improve MHASP’s ability to identify relevant trends, service gaps, and system failures in the children’s/youth behavioral health system
Act as a liaison between the family and youth advocates at MHASP, the Advocacy and Policy Division and government entities and community service providers
Represent MHASP in youth behavioral health systems advocacy coalitions, help to organize new systems advocacy coalitions, and insure that that representation provided by MHASP advocates in coalitions and at public meetings is in keeping with the MHASP policy and advocacy goals
Promote cross-systems collaboration between the youth and adult behavioral health systems, the juvenile justice systems, the educational systems, court systems, and other youth serving systems
Work with the Advocacy Division Director to develop MHASP’s position on important issues and disseminate these positions to policy makers and across systems
Work with the Advocacy Division Director to conceptualize new programs/services and pursue funding for new and existing program
Qualifications:
familiarity with the adult behavioral health systems in Pennsylvania is required
Must have passed a college level class in statistics or have equivalent experience
Lived Experience with youth behavioral health or as a family member preferred but not required
A Bachelor’s degree (BA) and three years’ experience
Master’s Degree (MA, MSW) in a social service field preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the above
