Outreach Worker

The responsibilities of the Outreach Worker include: Respond to calls from individuals, businesses, agencies and police regarding homeless persons on the street in Philadelphia. Engage homeless persons; determine needs, offer services, and follow-up. Follow a caseload of individuals on focus list. Assist walk-in clients at OCC and provide services. This position requires walking, sitting, talking under some unusual circumstances such as late evening hours on sidewalks, park benches, alleys, subways; during snow storms and heat waves; supporting intoxicated or disabled individuals; carrying blankets, coolers and other equipment to and from a vehicle.

Qualified candidates must have:

Prior experience working with persons with substance abuse and mental health issues;

Experience working with homeless persons (preferably outreach exp);

Able to engage persons in conversations and develop rapport;

Able to use an electronic hand-held data collection device

A dedication to assisting others while fostering their self-esteem and dignity;

A valid Driver’s License

Hours: 3pm-11pm Monday – Friday

4pm-12am (code blue – winter emergency)
