Tier 2 — Advanced Medical Coding Training
Eligibility Criteria:
TANF or low income individuals
At least 12th Grade Reading & 11th Grade Math Scores on TABE
Acceptable Criminal History
High Motivation and Interest
Must have either:
3-5 years work experience in a medical facility or
Relevant certifications from NAHP, AAPC, ACMCS, HBMA, AACCA,
BMSC, AAMA and/or AHIMA
Course Summary
30 Weeks of Intense, Focused Training
Each week of training will include 15 hours of classroom training (Mon – Thurs, 9:00 AM—12:45 PM) and at least 10 hours of virtual/online training. The training program will help the students prepare for the following prestigious certification examinations from AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association):
CCA (Certified Coding Associate)
CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist – Physician Based)
Core instructional content in the following domains, in accordance with AHIMA guidelines:
Domain 1: Life Sciences (Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Clinical Medicine & Medical Terminology)
Domain 2: Information Technology
Domain 3: Health Information Management, Healthcare Data Content, HIPAA & Healthcare Delivery Systems
Domain 4: Clinical Classification Systems (ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 & HCPCS Coding Systems; Reimbursement Methodologies, DRGs, RBRVS, IPPS & OPPS)
