Position Announcement: Financial Aid U-Philly Assistant Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Impact and Outreach, Campaign for Working Families
Position Characteristics: Part time (20-25 hours/week) seasonal (October-May)
Organization Overview: The Campaign for Working Families facilitates expanded income to low-wage workers in the Philadelphia region by increasing their access to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and other federal credits, low cost financial services, improved financial planning, and public benefits. During the tax season, the Campaign runs a number of tax sites throughout Philadelphia, staffed primarily by volunteers that provide free tax preparation services for low and moderate income families and individuals. Since 2003, the Campaign has completed over 90,000 tax returns, worth $146 million in refunds, saving customers $20.2 million in estimated fees.
Program Overview: Financial Aid U-Philly (FAU-P) is a program of CWF designed to help students secure the financial aid necessary to attend post-secondary education. FAU-P seeks opportunities to go into high schools and provide onsite tax and FAFSA preparation combined with personal follow up to students to ensure they are on the right path to fund post-secondary education. The program relies upon strong partnerships with college access initiatives already in place. The FAU-P Assistant Coordinator is one of a team of two responsible for all aspects of implementation and reporting for the FAU-P program, taking the lead on planning, outreach, implementation and reporting.
Responsibilities:
Identify potential hosts for FAU-P activities and build relationships.
Consult on marketing materials and develop curriculum for educational outreach presentations.
Distribute materials and provide presentations as necessary.
Receive training to become adept at preparing FAFSAs and completing tax returns.
Develop expertise on college access process and challenges to access for low and moderate income students.
Schedule and staff FAFSA and tax preparation events at host institutions. Work closely with host liaisons to ensure appropriate outreach for events is taking place and that events will be successful.
Provide financial coaching and follow up to all students for whom FAU-P provides FASFA preparation services via phone and in person where necessary.
If necessary, recruit and oversee volunteers and interns to help implement the program.
Ensure appropriate data collection and produce reports as requested.
Participate in all training, conference calls and debriefings as requested by the funder.
Ensure the school-based effort completes at least 350 FAFSAs.
Qualifications:
High energy and enthusiastic about goals of the program.
Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships.
Extremely reliable and conscientious. Can work independently and manage projects.
Excellent computer skills
Ability to learn quickly
Flexible and comfortable in fast changing environments
