Community Schools Featured in New USDOE Handbook!
Community schools are quickly becoming embedded in the U.S. Department of Education’s school reform strategy as an innovative and efficient method for turning around schools. A new publication entitled the Handbook for Family and Community Engagement (aka. FACE Handbook), funded by the Department, dedicates an entire chapter, Engaging the Entire Community: The Community Schools’ Way (page 45), to our work.
The Handbook comes at a time when educators and policymakers alike, are trying to crack the code on family and community engagement. It shares best practices for practitioners and policymakers at the local, state, and national level around family and community engagement.
The community schools chapter draws from the Coalition’s soon to be released publication: Scaling Up Schools and Community Partnerships. The guide is now accessible at http://www.communityschools.org/scalingup. We will formally launch this on-line guide on September 20th. Stay tuned for more details.
Finally, we would like to give a shout out to our partners– Public Education Network , Annenberg Institute for School Reform, Brown University, and the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning for the contributions to the FACE Handbook!
