Teacher Resource: Gender Equality, Poverty and Population
Posted by on September 19, 2011
Creative Change Educational Solutions is pleased to announce “Gender Equality, Poverty and Population,” a new, in-depth lesson for grades 9-12 and higher education.
In this interdisciplinary investigation, learners examine how gender equality affects poverty and global population growth. To begin, learners explore their prior knowledge and assumptions about these issues and identify factors that affect family size. Next, learners explore indicators of gender equality, poverty, and population, including infant mortality and female literacy rates. Learners then apply mathematical skills (graphing, line of best fit) to determine correlation and/or causation among these indicators. Learners conclude their investigation by conducting an analysis of global gender equality initiatives. (Allow 190 – 205 minutes.)
The lesson is the latest addition to Creative Change’s Curriculum and Resource Center (CRC), an on-line library of courses, units, lessons, and instructional design tools.
