National Youth Leadership Council Invites Applications for Youth Leadership for Service-Learning Excellence Award
Deadline: October 21, 2011

The National Youth Leadership Council’s Youth Leadership for Service-Learning Excellence Award is designed to recognize K-12 service-learning programs and projects that demonstrate outstanding youth leadership. The award focuses on projects that uniquely demonstrate youth leadership for service-learning excellence and have a sustainable impact on the participants and the broader community.

Youth teams representing K-12 service-learning programs in which the service-learning is tied to the school curricula may apply. Although the word “program” is used, applications will be accepted for a particular project as long as it has a long-term impact. Preference will be given to ongoing programs and projects.

Applications will be accepted from all states, but only one award will be presented.

The young people involved in the program must write the application. In cases where youth are unable to write the application due to age or disability, a teacher or service-learning coordinator can assist with the application to the extent necessary.

One winner will be selected to receive the award at the National Service-Learning Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, April 11-14, 2012. The winner will receive $1,000 to support the program, along with travel, lodging, and registration for the conference for two youth participants and one adult leader. Each youth involved in the winning program will receive an award certificate.

Complete program information and the application are available at the NYLC Web site.
