Job Description
The Center City College Access Center, located in the Gallery Shopping Mall, is one of two College Access Centers serving the public through the Philadelphia Education Fund’s College Access Program. The Philadelphia Education Fund is an independent, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of public education in Philadelphia and the region, so that youth are prepared for college and careers. Please see: http://www.philaedfund.org. The College Access Program aims to improve access to postsecondary education for Philadelphia public school students. The program works in partnership with Philadelphia public schools, colleges and universities, community groups and businesses.
The Center City College Access Center assists thousands of young people annually in their efforts to access college. The Center is open to the public and also collaborates with a variety of community groups. In this Center, the Ed Fund partners with Graduate!Philadelphia, which serves adults seeking to return to college.
Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day operation of Center City College Access Center; collaborate with Center partner Graduate!Philadelphia; Create and implement an outcomes based plan for the Center to serve the community and to partner pro-actively with community groups, universities and businesses to enable young people to access college; Together with Ed Fund staff, create systems to track data documenting Center outcomes and to evaluate Center work; Create reports as needed; Develop and implement a plan to recruit, train and monitor volunteers to support the work of the College Access Center; Collaborate with Ed Fund staff and partner organizations to ensure appropriate funding of Center; Create and conduct individual and group activities for students and their families focused on college application, admissions and financial aid processes; collaborate with universities, community and faith based groups, as well as businesses in creating and conducting these activities; Represent the Center in the public through meetings, presentations and related activities; Other related responsibilities as assigned Work a schedule which includes evenings and weekends.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred; Demonstrated leadership skills; A track record of excellent program management; volunteer recruitment and management experience preferred; At least three years experience working with students, families and/or community, especially those who are low income and potential first generation college attendees, in the field of college preparation; Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously to produce high quality results quickly and on time; Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team with great energy, persistence, and dedication; Critical thinking, problem solving, accuracy, and attention to detail; Excellent communications skills, both oral and written; Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies, such as school staff, university staff, parents and community groups, as well as with diverse racial and ethnic groups.
Reporting:
This position reports to the Director of the College Access Program.
