Director, Pace Center for Civic Engagement-Princeton University

Princeton University – Princeton, NJ

Princeton University, one of the world’s leading teaching and research institutions, seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and inspiring leader to serve as the director of the Pace Center for Civic Engagement. The Center supports efforts by undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni to identify and address issues of public concern, to be actively engaged citizens, and to practice effective public leadership to build stronger communities and societies throughout the world. The Center connects individuals and groups with opportunities to respond thoughtfully to civic problems and have an impact through direct volunteer service, civic action trips, social entrepreneurship, public service internships and fellowships, and volunteer teaching and tutoring.

Reporting to the vice president for campus life, the director will articulate a cohesive and compelling vision for the Pace Center and its value for the University community, refine the programmatic goals of the Center, build collaborative partnerships with community-based organizations and public and civic institutions, coordinate Pace Center programs with related activities across the University, and further integrate the Center into the central life and mission of the University. In addition, the successful candidate will manage an annual budget of $1.7 million, generate new financial resources for the Center, provide exemplary stewardship of donors, evaluate the quality and effectiveness of Center activities, and provide direction and leadership for a staff of ten.

This leadership opportunity requires an individual who understands residential campus life and the role of service in the context of the academic mission of the University, inspires others to invest their energy and resources in civic engagement, and seeks and values input from many sources. The ideal candidate will be an experienced manager of people and finances, politically astute University citizen, and exemplary communicator and relationship-builder. A bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree is preferred.
