Service-Learning Expo

Posted by on September 15, 2008

On October 7, in partnership with the Institute for Global Education and Service Learning, and State Farm, PHENND will be organizing a K-16+ service-learning fair featuring projects related to food, hunger, and/or nutrition.

We are doing this for several reasons.  First, the week of October 6-13 is national Learn and Serve Challenge Week.  As a Learn and Serve grantee, we are encouraged to do something that week to spotlight service-learning and its many positive impacts.

Second, it also happens to be the same week that the Community Food Security Coalition is bringing a national conference on food security to the Philadelphia region.  There are many wonderful food/hunger/nutrition related service-learning projects in the area, some of which will already be highlighted at the conference.

So, we thought we should put the two together.

Please join us Tuesday, October 7, 4-5:30 PM at the National Liberty Museum, 321 Chestnut Street.  We invite your students to participate in a poster session/service fair.  This will be an opportunity for them to talk about their project with a wider audience, including local elected officials, their peers, and community food security experts from around the country.  Any service-learning project will be accepted, though we are specifically trying to highlight projects related to food security issues.

This fair will be K-16+, meaning that whether you have elementary-age students, high school students, college undergraduate or even graduate students, they are welcome to participate.

Please let me know by Thursday, September 25, if you can participate.  Please contact me with any additional questions.  An application to participate can be found at: https://phennd.org/downloads/lsa%20challenge%20week%20application.doc
