UrbanPhilly supports black mentor recruitment
The Urban Philly Professional Network has teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Pennshylvania to recruit 100 men of color to mentor boys by November 1st.
According to BBBS, there are more than 800 boys in Greater Philadelphia who have requested, yet cannot find, mentors. Only 15% of BBBS’ male volunteers are African-American.
This effort aims to help close the mentoring gap and positively impact the community through involvement. To encourage African American men to volunteer, BBBS will organize monthly sports, entertainment, arts, or culture activities for boys and their mentors who sign up through the UPPN program. As a result, mentors will not have to figure out activities or spend their own resources in order to help change a boy’s life.
