Community Organizer/Communications Internship

The Coalition for Healthy Families and Workplaces is looking for engaged student interns to work as Community Organizers to pass Philadelphia’s Bill No. 080474, Promoting Healthy Families and Work Places. The Coalition, led by Pathways PA and Women’s Way, is building momentum to pass a bill through city council that would protect employees’ right to earn sick time and enable individuals to stay home to recover or take care of a loved one while maintaining their job security and financial security.

The Coalition for Healthy Families and Workplaces is offering an exciting internship opportunity to be a part of the height of a city-wide campaign for workers rights.

We are looking for 4 candidates who are organized, energetic, have strong communication skills, can work independently in a fast-paced and diverse setting, and who strongly support the legislation.

Specific tasks may include:

· Worker Outreach
o Acquire expertise on the issue to better inform individuals
o Calls to effected workers to gather stories

· Business Outreach
o Door to Door business outreach, identifying supportive businesses
o Building a database of supportive businesses
o Cold calls to businesses

· Communications
o Planning special events

Internship Details:
· Availability: A minimum of 10-15 hours/week from May, 2011 through June 2011

Opportunity to start as soon as possible if available
· This is an unpaid internship
· Monday-Friday, flexible day time and evening hours available
