Rural Wealth Creation and Livelihoods Conference
Posted by on April 04, 2011
I am writing to let you know about an invitational Rural Wealth Creation and Livelihoods Conference that will take place this fall – and to ask you to spread the news about it.
The conference is being convened by the Economic Research Service of USDA and the Ford Foundation on October 3-5, 2011, in Washington DC. It will bring together a rich mix of the practitioners doing the on-the-ground work of rural and regional development, the people who make the policy that affects the work, the researchers who study its design and impact, and the funders and intermediaries who help them. The purpose is to build shared understanding and to advance on-the-ground practice, research and policy focused on how to create and maintain “wealth that sticks” to the benefit of rural community, business and family livelihoods.
All those interested in attending the conference are requested to apply by responding to the Call for Participation. The application asks interested participants to outline their interest in attending, including any program stories, policy ideas, research or burning questions they can contribute to the exchange at the conference. The Call for Participation may be obtained by using the following link or by pasting the URL below in your web browser:

Applications to attend the conference are due on May 15th, 2011. Note that the application also offers the opportunity to apply for some of the limited scholarship funds available to attend the conference.
The conference organizers want to spread this opportunity far and wide – so please forward this email to your networks, and include information about it in any newsletters, tweets or social media you wish!
The Call for Participation and application materials will likely answer any questions you may have – but feel free to contact me or anyone on the Organizing Committee if you have more.
