10th Annual Afterschool for All Challenge: STEM

The Pennsylvania Statewide Afterschool/Youth Development Network (PSAYDN) encourages you to attend the 10th Annual Afterschool for All Challenge where you will join hundreds of afterschool advocates from across the United States. The Challenge will be held May 16-17, 2011 in Washington, D.C. and the theme of this year’s conference is Expanding Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) After School.

Day One kicks off with training workshops, briefings and networking opportunities.  A range of topics will be covered from budget cuts to STEM opportunities with expert speakers such as Robin Schepper of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Initiative, recipients of the MetLife Afterschool Innovator Award and Dr. Georgia Hall of the National Institute on Out-of-School Time.

Day Two activities move to Capitol Hill.  After our annual “Breakfast of Champions” featuring Segway inventor and FIRST Robotics founder Dean Kamen, attendees will visit their Congressional offices in meetings arranged for you by the Afterschool Alliance, to discuss the importance of afterschool programs.

Youth Participation in the Challenge:  The Afterschool Alliance encourages participants to bring one or two middle or high school-age students to take part in the Youth Advocacy Forum and Congressional meetings on Capitol Hill.  You can register youth attendees when filling out the general registration form.
