Position Objective
In an effort to grow the HFHP ReStore – a thrift store that sells new and gently used furniture, household items, appliances and building materials to the public at greatly discounted prices – the truck driver will serve as a liaison between all ReStore donors and the ReStore, as well as HFHP as a whole. The driver will drive our 16’ box truck throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding area, picking up donations of furniture, appliances, and any other items deemed acceptable donations by the ReStore Manager. By acting as a liaison, the driver will help HFHP gain a strong reputation as an affordable home builder in Philadelphia, increase the visibility of the ReStore, and in general aid in the advancement of HFHP’s mission. This position has the potential, but is not guaranteed, to lead to a full-time opportunity for the right person.
Essential Functions of Position:
Donation Pickups
* Represent Habitat for Humanity of Philadelphia, its mission, projects, and policies to the general public.
* Represent the ReStore to the general public
* Provide exceptional, friendly customer service to donors
* Assist donors with filling out donation paperwork.
* Safely operate Habitat for Humanity vehicles to pick up donated goods.
* Load and unload all materials.
* Screen donations for usability and adherence to guidelines.
* Communicate with ReStore Manager regarding nature of shipments.
* Pickups are scheduled for Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays between 8am – 4pm
Volunteer Management
* Supervise/coordinate/cooperate with volunteers and partner families, making their experiences meaningful.
General ReStore Duties
* Perform or coordinate cleaning and maintenance of ReStore vehicles.
* Help to keep the warehouse clean and well maintained.
* Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
* Understand the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and have the desire to promote it
* Ability to effectively serve people of different races, religions, incomes and education levels
* Understand the difference between “doing for” and “doing with”
* Experience as a volunteer is helpful
* Interest in working with a nonprofit making a difference in our community.
* Dependable, motivated, and good problem solving skills.
* Ability to relate well to a variety of people.
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License, good driving record.
* Excellent customer service skills essential.
* Experience driving a box truck helpful.
* Knowledge of furniture moving techniques helpful.
* Some automobile mechanical aptitude.
* Must be familiar with and comfortable driving in Philadelphia.
Physical Requirements to Perform Duties:
* Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds, stand, squat, bend, and climb in/out of truck.
