Register Now for Sept. 18 Audioconference on Revitalizing Arts Education
Municipal officials are invited to register for a free, hour-long audioconference sponsored by the YEF Institute on “Community-Wide Collaborations to Revitalize Arts Education,” which takes place Thurs., Sept. 18, 2008, at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Squeezed by state and local budget crises and education reforms that emphasize high-stakes testing, public schools have been steadily cutting back on arts education for more than 30 years. This audioconference will highlight five cities featured in a new report by The Wallace Foundation where collaborations among city leaders, schools, cultural institutions, community groups, and out-of-school time programs are revitalizing youth participation in music, visual arts, and other arts education opportunities. Speakers will include:
* Ayanna Higgins, director of arts education, Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Los Angeles, Calif.;
* Giselle Antoni, president/CEO, Big Thought, Dallas, Texas;
* Sue Bodilly, director, RAND Education, Santa Monica, Calif.; and
* Ann Stone, senior research and evaluation officer, The Wallace Foundation, New York, N.Y.
TO REGISTER FOR THIS FREE CALL: Advance registration is required by close of business on Tues., Sept. 16. No phone registrations can be accepted. If you already registered, you do not have to do so again. One day prior to the event, each registrant will receive an e-mail providing a toll-free, dial-in number to use in joining the audioconference. If you have any questions, leave a detailed message on the Youth, Education, and Families Institute information line at (202) 626-3014.
