Draft Philadelphia 2035 Plan Issued
The first draft of Philadelphia 2035 was released by city planners recently, producing the first city-wide comprehensive plan since 1960. The plan predicts that the city’s population will grow by 100,000 by 2035 and sees job growth increasing by 40,000 new jobs. The plan focuses on three themes:
1. Thrive- preserve and improve strong neighborhood centers.
2. Connect-link city neighborhoods with each other and improve internal connections as well through public transit, bike and walking routes.
3. Renew-redevelop areas in the city that are unused or underused.
This document, the beginning of a long process, initiates the development of 18 district-level plans that account for zoning and other land use adjustments.
