ELGP measures region’s contributions to PA revenues
A new Economy League study commissioned by the Metropolitan Caucus shows that southeastern Pennsylvania is a net contributor to the Commonwealth’s General Fund.
Comprising 31% of the state’s population, the region contributes a share of revenues greater than its population share and receives an allocation of resources that is roughly equal to the region’s population and well below its level of economic activity and revenue generated.
The report, Southeastern Pennsylvania & the Commonwealth Budget: An Analysis of the Region’s Share of General Fund Revenues and Expenditures, shows that while the five counties require significant state resources to maintain a thriving economy and population, this investment ensures that they preserve a high level of economic output and contribute a high level of tax revenues to the state.
The Metropolitan Caucus is a convening body of elected officials from southeastern Pennsylvania that works to build consensus around regional objectives and to act in concert to achieve shared priorities. Members include the county commissioners and council members from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties and Philadelphia’s mayor.
