Help Senior Centers Receive Accreditation

Senior centers offered help in accreditation

United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania has issued a Request for Proposals to support senior centers in the region to obtain accreditation from the National Institute of Senior Centers.

Accreditation is a nationally recognized standard of excellence, and demonstrates the quality of senior community centers nationwide.  The United Way Senior Center Accreditation Project assists senior centers to earn or maintain accreditation by providing staff technical assistance, technical assistance grants, and access to peer learning and support.

Endorsed by the National Council on Aging, which has more than 50 years of nonprofit experience with advocacy for the elderly, accreditation is the official recognition that a senior center is meeting its mission in a nationally accepted professional fashion meeting standards of excellence in nine separate categories:  Purpose, Community, Governance, Administration, Program Planning, Evaluation, Fiscal Management, Records & Reports, and Facilities.

Since the inception of this project in 2001, UWSEPA has helped 18 senior centers earn their accreditation.  Proposals are due by Friday, March 4th.
