The Attic Youth Center (The Attic) is Philadelphia’s only agency exclusively serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. The mission of The Attic is to create opportunities for LGBTQ youth to develop into healthy, independent, civic-minded adults within a safe and supportive community, and to promote the acceptance of LGBTQ youth in society.
The Program Supervisor will oversee The Attic’s Life Skills Center, which offers programming designed to assist youth in developing academic and career readiness competencies and to foster personal, social, and leadership skills. Life Skills Center activities include out-of-school time programming with groups such as photography, cooking, fashion, dance, and screen printing; one-on-one life coaching including assistance with resume writing, job/school applications, and conflict resolution; summer internship and work programs; and a variety of youth leadership and civic engagement opportunities.
Major Responsibilities:
• Oversee the day-to-day functions of Life Skills Center/Programming
• Supervise Life Skills Center staff including part-time facilitators and student interns
• Provide direct services to youth through individual life coaching sessions
• Manage Attic sponsored events and Attic participation in community events
• Coordinate outreach efforts in the schools and community
• Assist in the development and implementation of strategic planning goals and objectives for LS programs.
• Develop policies and procedures to advance the goals of Life Skills Programming
Other Management duties:
• Work in conjunction with senior staff on the management and oversight of Life Skills Center resources and program implementation.
• Assist in the recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of LS Center staff.
• Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum, evaluation tools and monitoring tools.
• Document services, collect data and prepare monthly reports as necessary.
• Assist in the tasks of building service and support linkages within the larger community to maintain essential referral base for The Attic youth members.
• Support community collaborations and representation of The Attic at outside functions.
• Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
• Minimum of a Bachelors degree. Master’s degree in social work, psychology or related mental health or educational field preferred.
• Experience with the implementation and monitoring of youth development programming or child welfare programs.
• Strong leadership and decision-making capacity.
• Good interpersonal skills
• At least 3 years of supervisory experience required.
• Experience working with adolescents and their families.
• Strong clinical assessment and case-management skills.
• Experience with compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of working with diverse populations, especially LGBTQ issues
• Strong computer skills- proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
