Kick Off Meeting: Philadelphia Intercollegiate Coalition Against Hunger

Posted by on January 30, 2011

On January 25, 2010, the Food Research and Action Center released data revealing that the Philadelphia-area district is the 2nd hungriest district in the US! Hungers grip extends beyond the third world. In the US, one in six Americans experience hunger!

Interested in:
* combating hunger in Philadelphia?
* being an anti-hunger leader at your university?
* connecting with students from other universities who are passionate about tackling hunger?
* playing a pivotal role in the formation of an intercollegiate coalition to fight hunger?

We are starting a Philadelphia Intercollegiate Coalition Against Hunger. The coalition aims to effectively harness the energy of college students to take a bite out of hunger in Philadelphia. It seeks to establish communication between universities and concerted, organized efforts to address hunger through advocacy, action, and community service.

We are looking for 1-2 representatives, from different college campuses in Philadelphia, who are interested in helping to start the coalition and in encouraging other students at their campus to get involved in anti-hunger issues.

We have many ideas about the coalition, but we’d love to hear and incorporate ideas from students at other universities as we want to actively involve representatives from Philadelphia college campuses including yours! We’d also like to learn what your campus is already doing to address hunger.

We are holding a “Brainstorming to Oust Hunger” session to discuss starting the coalition on. . .
