PA Dept. of Labor and Industry Release Green Jobs Report
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry has released its Pennsylvania Green Jobs Survey Report, based on survey data from over 14,500 companies. The study estimates total statewide green employment of 183,029 across the six green core areas composed of the following: energy efficiency; resource sustainability/renewable energy; pollution prevention; education/training or compliance; environmental clean-up; and harmful emissions reduction. Compared to all Pennsylvania employment, green jobs account for about 3.4 percent of the statewide total; however, conservative employer projections estimated that over the next two years an additional 23,239 positions will exist beyond current levels, representing an annualized growth rate of 6.2 percent.
Overall, roughly one out of every five companies in Pennsylvania (20.6 percent) currently employs workers in green jobs. In general, smaller companies – those with fewer than 50 employees – were more likely to report having green employment than the larger companies. Twenty-two percent of the smaller companies had green employment, compared to 16 percent of the companies with at least 50 employees.
