The forum will feature Mr. Mark Johnston, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Special Needs for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and Mr. Vincent Kane of the National Center on Homelessness among Veterans.  Agencies serving singles, families, children, and veterans will be interested to hear about the latest policy developments from Washington DC.

Mr. Johnston is responsible for administering HUD’s $3.5 billion in assistance for persons who are homeless and low-income persons with HIV/AIDS.  Mr. Johnston is involved in developing HUD’s upcoming regulations that will govern the Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing (HEARTH) Act and in the funding for the McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Program.  In addition, Mr. Johnston oversaw the research on costs of serving first-time homeless families and individuals, transitional housing, and more.

Vince Kane of the National Center on Homelessness among Veterans is its Director of the VA Supportive Housing (VASH) program and the Low Income at Risk Initiative. He also served as the administrator for the Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Centers (MIRECC) and Centers of Excellence, Mr. Kane has more than 20 years of experience as a clinician, educator, and administrator. He is also a graduate of Bryn Mawr School of Social Work and Social Research.
