Student Research Paper Contest — Call for Participation
Preventing Chronic Disease (PCD) announces its 2011 Student Research Contest. PCD is a peer-reviewed electronic journal established to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners in chronic disease prevention and health promotion. The journal is published bimonthly by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. PCD accepts papers relevant to the prevention, screening, surveillance, and/or population-based intervention of diseases, including but not limited to arthritis, asthma, cancer, depression, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.
Purpose:
This contest provides a forum for students to develop their research skills and publish their results.
Goals:
· Recognize exceptional students in the field of chronic disease prevention and health promotion.
· Encourage and promote scientific research and writing.
· Provide an opportunity for students to publish their work.
Submission Requirements:
PCD uses PCD Manuscript Central for manuscript submission and tracking. Before you submit your manuscript, read the instructions below in addition to the information provided on manuscript requirements.

· Participants must be undergraduate or graduate students.
· Participants must prepare a cover letter, indicating where they are enrolled and the name of their major advisor.
· Participants should disclose in the cover letter any and all conflicts of interest.
· Participants should submit the cover letter when they submit the manuscript.
· Participants must verify that the final manuscript has been seen and approved by all authors.
· Manuscripts should not be published previously or submitted elsewhere for publication.

Deadline:
· Papers must be received electronically no later than 11:59 PM EST on January 4, 2011.
Award:
· The winning manuscript will receive recognition on the PCD Web site and will be published in the July 2011 issue.
