Mighty Writers Spring 2011 Internships:
Spring writing and tutoring internships are available at a South Philadelphia kids’ writing center. These internships offer college students, recent graduates, writers, and interested others the chance to participate in the spring programming (our themed afterschool program and writing workshops like Sports Blogging, Writing My Neighborhood and To the Beat) at Mighty Writers. To this end, responsibilities will include:
–preparing for and attending weekly volunteer staff meetings
–assisting students with their academic tutoring and writing projects
–locating or developing remedial and creative curricula as needed
–developing newsletter content
–serving as substitute TAs for writing workshops when needed
–assisting with clerical and administrative work, learning new computer applications as necessary
–helping spread the word about Mighty Writers by attending literary and community events
We welcome resumes and CVs from anyone with 15-20 hours to contribute per week. We are happy to work with universities or departments to facilitate internship credit. Social work and theater majors encouraged to apply! A great attitude is a must! We also value working well with others, accepting constructive criticism, and thinking outside of the box.
