Suder Foundation Accepting Letters of Inquiry for First Scholars Program Sites
Deadline: November 15, 2010 (Letters of Inquiry)
The Suder Foundation is accepting Letters of Inquiry from four-year public universities interested in developing a First Scholars program site. First Scholars is a national program that works to provide holistic support to first-generation college students in collaboration with selected universities. The foundation will make a five-year commitment totaling $2.5 million to start and provide early support to the three institutions selected in the 2011 funding cycle.
The program currently operates at the University of Kentucky and the University of Utah and is in the planning stage at the University of Alabama and Southern Illinois University. The program’s target institutions have an enrollment between 8,500 and 25,000 students and are primarily residential campuses. Each institution selected in 2011 will receive a one-year $60,000 planning grant. Additional funding includes $500,000 in scholarships and approximately $300,000 for program operations over the first four years. Universities will be required to match the scholarships and secure a co-investment commitment from university leadership.
