Afterschool Program Site Coordinator, Lutheran Children and Family Service of Eastern Pennsylvania
Last day to apply: December 13, 2010
Salary: The hourly pay range is $13 – $14 per hour for 30 hours per week. Benefits.
Description:
Lutheran Children and Family Service serves over 700 school-age children in Philadelphia with programming before and after school through a network of 12 school-based elementary school programs, two middle school programs and one high school program.
LCFS seeks four Site Coordinators across the city to supervise out-of-school-time programs. Site Coordinators are the leaders that generate the staff enthusiasm and high quality programming to engage students of diverse backgrounds and supervise staff needed to create energizing experiences for children and youth.
The overall goal of our after school programs is to support the growth and development of the children by providing a safe, caring, interesting, adult supervised after school environment, expanding upon the physical, social, emotional, cognitive skills experienced by the children in school. Project-based learning is used to engage the children in real-world problems and activities designed to make them critical thinkers and socially engaged in their communities. Past projects have included community mapping and the development of a “water ice” stand, designing, planning and growing “pizza gardens” which provide the ingredients for pizzas, and others.
The Site Director will be supervised by a Program Supervisor and will be responsible for coordinating activities, engaging youth, and supervising the Group Leader and Assistant Group Leaders.
Site Directors generally work 30 hours per week. Program hours are generally 3:00 to 6:00 each day with summer camp in the summer.
Lutheran Children and Family Service (LCFS) is a private, non-profit, 501(C)(3) social service organization affiliated with the national Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. LCFS is one of eight Lutheran agencies providing human services and health care in Pennsylvania under the umbrella of Liberty Lutheran Services (LLS) and is governed by a Board of Directors. Since its founding in 1922, it has been dedicated to protecting and empowering vulnerable children and families in partnership with churches and others in the local and world community through culturally sensitive ministries of care, advocacy and counseling. The agency began as the Lutheran Children’s Bureau with the purpose of ensuring that children were cared for in families rather than in institutions. During the past 87 years of existence, the agency has grown and diversified but continues its purpose of service. Current programming includes but is not limited to Child Welfare Services, Immigration and Refugee Services, Literacy, Job-Development, Positive Youth Development, After School Programming, and Senior Services. Its mission is: “To Serve Children and Families in Need”. LCFS is a member of the Child Welfare League of America and is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Children and Family Services (COA).
