City schools open dropout center

The School District of Philadelphia Re-Engagement Center, a one-stop center for young people who dropped out from high school to help them get a diploma or GED, was formally opened last week at the District’s Education Center at 440 N. Broad Street in Philadelphia.

The center provides young people aged 16 to 21 and their families with access to information and placement services leading to re-enrollment.  The center also connects youth to resources such as childcare and employment.  Adults over 21 can also use the referral services at the center.

The center is a project of the Office of Multiple Pathways to Education, which aims to give students who have previously dropped out or those with low high school credits the change to return to school.

The Re-Engagement Center, thought to be one of the first in the nation, is staffed by personnel from the School District and the Philadelphia Departments of Human Services and Behavioral Health.   The center is open from 7:30am to 6pm.  For more information, call 215-400-6700.
