Posted by on October 04, 2010
Roots Conference, February 17-18, 2011
A youth development summit for educators, after school, mental health, and public health professionals
Become a presenter at the central San Joaquin Valley’s first annual national-level Roots Conference for educators and after school staff with crossover topics relevant to mental health and public health professionals. As you may know, this area is isolated from many of the training opportunities throughout California, making this event significantly important to the area and the professional development of the individuals working hard to address the issues affecting the youth of our communities.
Join an impressive array of cutting-edge speakers, including Pedro Noguera, Ph.D., a renowned teacher, author and expert on school reform, diversity and the achievement gap.
Workshops will focus on a wide variety of topics, including:
* creating a positive school climate;
* meeting the needs of English learners;
* emphasizing social and emotional learning;
* addressing social inequalities and educational disparities;
* designing service-learning programs;
* establishing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning opportunities;
* developing Title I programs;
* working with foster care and adoption youth in a school setting;
* addressing special needs of students in after school;
* building, expanding, and strengthening summer learning programs; and
* supporting coordination between education, mental health, and public health organizations.
