New Report: Civic Learning at the Edge: Transformative Stories of Highly Engaged Youth

I am pleased to announce that my research study, “Civic Learning at the Edge: Transformative Stories of Highly Engaged Youth” is complete and a summary of findings has been posted to my website.  Study information and findings can be accessed from the Research Study Overview

My study drew from multidisciplinary research to learn from the lived experiences of 44 young people who sustained high levels of civic engagement during adolescence and into their college years.  Themes that evolved from the narrative data of diverse youth from 22 states resulted in three main findings, that 1) Challenges and obstacles of civic involvement engage cognition and emotion, 2) Adults scaffold inner strengths in young citizens, and 3) Transformative learning connects meaning to action.
