Volunteers needed, After School Activities Partnerships
Posted by on August 18, 2008
ASAP/After School Activities Partnerships needs volunteers to lead activities for kids 1 hour/week at local schools, recreation centers and community centers throughout Philadelphia. In partnership with volunteers, ASAP organizes activities for children during the academic year and summer. ASAP is looking for volunteers who interested in leading chess, Scrabble, dance, yoga, drama, or art activities and who are able to take the initiative to lead the activity on their own each week. You choose which activity you would like to share with kids and ASAP will set you up at a location that is convenient for you (i.e., local school, community or recreation center). ASAP provides volunteers with training, support and materials. Volunteers are welcome to lead activities with partners, as well.
Volunteers participate in a one hour training at ASAP. After participating in the training, volunteers will understand ASAP’s mission and accomplishments; understand the importance of their role in working with ASAP; be familiar with basic techniques on how to lead an activity and work with kids; and, know ASAP’s expectations of volunteers and what volunteers can expect from ASAP. At the training, volunteers will also complete the appropriate paperwork for leading activities, including a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse History Clearance. Please contact ASAP at 215.545.2727 ext 10 / asapinfo@phillyasap.org for more information.
