Assistant Program Director, Project SHINE
The Center for Intergenerational Learning (CIL) at Temple University is dedicated to strengthening communities by bringing generations together to meet the needs of individuals and families throughout the life cycle. We achieve our mission by developing model programs that address critical community needs, providing training and technical assistance related to intergenerational and civic engagement programming, conducting research, and disseminating knowledge.
The Assistant Director is a key member of CIL’s Project SHINE, a national service-learning initiative which builds partnerships to engage college students and older immigrants in service to their communities. Through SHINE, students tutor immigrant elders in English, health literacy, citizenship preparation and civic education. Both students and elders assume leadership roles within the program and community, promoting Project SHINE, recruiting and training participants and supporting their work together. The Assistant Director also supports the Center’s Coming of Age initiative. Coming of Age is a national initiative that among other things helps nonprofits develop compelling opportunities for people age 50+ to connect and contribute. The SHINE Assistant Director will pursue this aspect of the initiative’s work in immigrant communities.
Reporting to the Director of SHINE, the Assistant Director oversees the local program as well as special projects that increase the awareness, knowledge, and capacity of organizations to engage college students and older immigrants in meaningful civic roles. This work will involve collaborating with the Directors of SHINE and Coming of Age to set project priorities, supervising staff and achieving objectives. Core tasks include project planning and implementation, outreach and coordination; technical assistance and support; data collection and reporting. The Assistant Director will also support materials development and dissemination through the SHINE consortium and other national networks and will oversee 1 full-time staff member, 2 AmeriCorps VISTA members and various consultants. The Assistant Director also contributes to program development and grant writing.
Qualified candidates must possess a master’s degree in education, non-profit management or related fields with a minimum of three years of experience working with immigrant communities and managing projects. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The candidates must have a demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office; demonstrated verbal and written communication skills; and strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Preferred qualifications include experience in one or more of the following: second language proficiency, service-learning, supervision, curriculum development, adult or health education.
