Dr. Adrian Sannier, Vice President of Product Marketing at Pearson eCollege
Looking Ahead in Higher Education
In April 2010, Dr. Adrian Sannier will return to the private sector when he joins Pearson eCollege as vice president of product marketing. He formerly served as the University Technology Officer at Arizona State University and was a Professor in the Division of Computing Studies. Prior to joining ASU, Dr. Sannier was the Stanley Professor of Interdisciplinary Engineering at Iowa State University. He also served as the Associate Director for the Virtual Reality Applications Center, focusing on the applications of immersive visualization and next generation human/computer interfaces to challenges in science, technology and the humanities. Dr. Sannier received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1982 and his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 1988.
Ms. Jennifer Schuster, Vice President and Senior Consultant Sibson Consulting – A Division of Segal
Going Social with Your Campus Communications
Ms. Schuster has nearly 20 years of experience in helping organizations engage their employees for improved performance. Ms. Schuster is experienced in the design and implementation of employee communication strategies and programs and in assisting organizations with Web-based communications, including the deployment of employee portal strategies and human resources Web sites. She has particular expertise in benefits communications, performance management and reward communications, employee recruitment and orientation, and crisis communications. Ms. Schuster received a BA from the University of California, Davis. She is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM).
Dr. Nicole Smith, Senior Economist, Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce
Workforce and Education: Its Impact on the Economy
Nicole Smith is a Senior Economist at the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce where she leads the Center’s econometric and methodological work. Dr. Smith is currently developing a framework for restructuring long-term occupational and educational projections. She is part of a team of economists working on a project that maps, projects, and monitors human capital development and career pathways. The project will result in supply and demand estimates by occupation and industry clusters that present a comprehensive analysis of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for 21st Century competencies. Dr. Smith graduated with honors in Economics and Mathematics from the University of the West Indies (U.W.I.), St. Augustine campus. She received her Ph.D. in Economics from American University, Washington D.C.
Dr. Martha J. Kanter, Under Secretary of Education, U.S. Department of Education
The National Higher Education Agenda and Its Implications for Consortia
As the under secretary of education, Martha Kanter reports to Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and oversees policies, programs, and activities related to postsecondary education, vocational and adult education, and federal student aid. From 2003 to 2009, Kanter served as chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District, one of the largest community college districts in the nation. She has also served as a board member or officer in a wide variety of national, state, and local organizations. Kanter holds a doctorate from the University of San Francisco, received her master’s degree from Harvard University, and a bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University.
Mr. Richard Legon, President, Association of Governing Boards (AGB)
Dealing with Your Board: Working with Presidents and Chancellors
The fourth president of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, Rick Legon has more than 30 years of experience working with public and independent higher education governing boards, as well as boards of other nonprofit organizations, with particular expertise on the board’s responsibilities for fund-raising and financial matters. Rick frequently is called on to work with system, campus, and institutionally related foundation boards to address responsibilities, structure and development, and effectiveness. Rick holds a master’s degree from George Washington University. He was named to the Board of Visitors for the Virginia State University by Governor Tim Kaine. Rick is a former trustee of the University of Charleston (West Virginia). He lives in Northern Virginia.
Dr. Frank Frankfort , Coordinator, EU-U.S. Atlantis Program
Panel Discussion: International Collaboration
Frank Frankfort is the Program Officer and Coordinator of the European Union-United States Atlantis Program and the Program for North American Mobility in Higher Education. Frank joined the FIPSE staff in September 1994. From 1987 to the present he has been in the Washington area, first as a program officer at the National Endowment for the Humanities, then as a Professor of Humanities and Dean of Arts and Sciences at Hood College. His special interests include globalization and the impact on higher education and comparative educational systems.
