Your Constitution Day Event: Census 2020

Posted by PHENND on August 6, 2019

As you may know, institutions of higher education that receive federal funds (i.e. everyone), are required to host some type of educational event in honor of Constitution Day, September 17th.

We have a unique opportunity this year, to have a region-wide common theme for Constitution Day 2019 — the 2020 Census. PHENND is partnering with Philly Counts 2020, the city’s effort to ensure the most complete and accurate count, to ask local colleges and universities to host a Census Champion Training as your Constitution Day event Tuesday, September 17th.

The Census Champion Training is 90 minute event designed to help more people become  trusted messengers equipped with the knowledge and tools to accurately and effectively answer questions and raise awareness about the 2020 Census. If your campus is in the City of Philadelphia proper, Philly Counts will send you a trainer on the 17th for your event. If you are in the suburbs, or if you want to host your event at a later time, we still want you to do this, but the city cannot guarantee a trainer. Instead, you can send a staff member to a train-the-trainers event on Thursday, September 12 from 3-5 PM at the Philly Counts office, 2 Penn Center, Suite 950.

This is part of a city-wide effort to train as many people as possible to be Census Champions — trusted community members who know more about the Census than the average person. I encourage you to make this your Constitution Day event and invite all of your campus constituents to it — students, faculty, staff, and community partners — so we can help spread accurate, non-partisan information far and wide. Please register to host a Constitution Day Census Champions Training by August 15th by emailing daniel.warner@phila.gov.

Please see this general description of the Census Champions Training as well as a generic flyer that you can customize with details for your particular event. You can also reach out to Gabriela Raczka at Gabriel.Raczka@Phila.gov and she will help customize your flyer for you.
