YESPhilly School Director position

YESPhilly will be opening a high school program sponsored by the School District of Philadelphia. Starting in September 2013 we will have 100 slots for youth between the ages of 16 and 21 who have dropped out of school or are significantly over-aged, under-credit. The school will combine District credit-retrieval models with YESPhilly’s special brand of media arts, technology skills, job and college readiness and counseling supports. We are looking for an effective educational leader to serve as School Director, to start as soon as possible.

Youth Empowerment Services (aka YESPhilly) seeks a dynamic, innovative educational leader to help launch a new credit-recovery school for 100 high school dropouts to open in September 2013.  The YESPhilly School will be a small, year-round, accelerated high school that combines academics, media arts and project-based learning.  The School Director will provide inspiration, leadership and direction to a team of school staff in order to meet youth where they are and support them to earn a high school diploma that prepares them for post-secondary success.  S/he must be a true innovator, passionate about educational reform, and skilled in organizational leadership.   This is an opportunity to be involved in the design and start-up of a high performing school.  The YESPhilly School is a new initiative within the Philadelphia School District’s Multiple Pathways portfolio of Accelerated Schools.  The school director will work with the YESPhilly leadership team and will have a major role in creating the instructional model, media programs and school environment.

Major Responsibilities:  The Director will immediately participate in school start-up with on-going responsibility for school leadership, day-to-day management of the school activities, and accountability, including continual school improvement, overall student well-being; cultivation of an inspired instructional team;  assurance of effective delivery and improvement of instruction; development of a school climate that cultivates excellent teaching and learning; and effective communication with students, families, and the broader community of partners.

Qualifications:  The Director will be a progressive and passionate educator who is ready to be at the forefront of an exciting educational endeavor. The ideal candidate will have:
•    solid track record of leadership and management skills;
•    perspective on the urban alternative education environment;
•    commitment to  positive youth development and research-based educational innovation;
•    demonstrated ability to work with teachers, families and a school community;
•    ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines;
•    a team player with excellent communication, interpersonal and technology skills;
•    a creative thinker with background and appreciation for the potential of media arts in education
•    master’s degree or higher;
•    This a 12-month position with a start date of July 1, 2013;
•    Salary – $65,000 plus benefits.
